Solemnity of Corpus Christi: Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ observed today

The Roman Catholic Church will observe the Solemnity of Corpus Christi on June 19, in commemoration of the institution by Jesus Christ of the Holy Eucharist to His apostles during the Last Supper.

Church rites will be held at the Santa Cruz Parish also known as the Archdiocesan Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Pillar Parish in Manila.

Triduum masses were held from June 16 to 18.

On June 19, Rev. Fr. Roel De la Cruz, provincial superior of Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, will preside over the Holy Mass at 4 p.m.

The procession of the Most Blessed Sacrament from the shrine to the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila will be held at 5 p.m.

Also known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, the observance is a Christian liturgical solemnity celebrating the Real Presence of the Body and Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.

The feast is observed by the Roman Catholic Church as well as certain Western Orthodox, Lutheran, and Anglican churches.

Every year, the Pope leads a Eucharistic procession in Rome, Italy from the Basilica of St. John Lateran to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major. As has been reported, Pope Francis will skip this year’s celebration because of his knee problem.
