The wounded victims were identified as Richard Jimenez, 30, of Barangay 26, construction worker, and Jorem Sibug, 24, of Barangay 27, this city.
Police Major Ritchie Gohee, head of Police Station 4, said that Police Master Sgt. Jeff Desucatan went to Barangay 26 to visit a friend who was the former girlfriend of Jimenez at about 12:30 a.m.
Jimenez assumed that Desucatan and his ex-girlfriend have a relationship. He confronted Desucatan until an altercation ensued between them.
Desucatan allegedly fired three gunshots after their argument based on the statement of a witness. Jimenez allegedly attempted to hit Desucatan with a bottle which prompted the lawman to shoot the victim in the left foot.
Sibug, who was walking on his way home, was hit by a stray bullet in the stomach, Gohee said.
Desucatan fled and hid at his friend’s house in Barangay 26 where he was arrested. The suspect surrendered his government-issued Glock 17 with a magazine and four live ammunition to the police.
Police recovered from the crime scene three dud bullets and four fired cartridge cases.
Gohee said that Desucatan and Jimenez had an earlier altercation prior to the incident. This, Gohee said, probably caused Jimenez to hold a grudge against the Desucatan.
The Police Station 4 head said they are awaiting the decision of the victims’ families if they will file criminal charges against Desucatan.
Aside from the criminal cases, Desucatan may also face administrative charges, according to Police Lt. Col. Sherlock Gabana, spokesperson of Bacolod City police.
Gabana said the Bacolod police will conduct a parallel investigation while the Provincial Internal Affairs Service will immediately conduct a moto proprio investigation.
Gabana clarified that Desucatan is not yet relieved from Police Station 2 as desk officer, pending the investigation.
