But Bossing coach cries foul over Jarencio's remarks about mom

Blackwater head coach Ariel Vanguardia insisted he didn’t mean to disrespect NorthPort mentor Pido Jarencio after calling a timeout towards the end of Bossing’s 97-90 victory over the Batang Pier although he took exception to his counterpart’s remarks regarding his mother during their heated exchange.

The tacticians figured in a late altercation during the traditional coaches’ handshake after Jarencio bumped Vanguardia at midcourt after the game.

It’s unclear for Vanguardia whether Jarencio was mad about the timeout or because the Bossing didn’t take a shot in the final possession despite calling a breather to draw up the play.

“It's no disrespect kasi akala ko nag agree na nga kami. I don't know kung mas disrespectful ba yung di ako tumira eh di ko rin alam eh. Eh walang open shot kaya wag na tayong tumira save possession eh baka makuha nila liliit din yung quotient,” said Vanguardia who also revealed that PBA coaches had a meeting in the past where they discussed on how they should deal such situations.

“Nung nagmeeting kami ng mga coaches and I think other coaches can attest to that, wala na tayong samaan ng loob kung yung timeout sa end game. I thought wala nang samaan ng loob kasi Jeffrey Cariaso was there, Chito Victolero was there and nandun din si coach Pido,” Vanguardia recalled.

Ironically, according to Vanguardia, it was Jarencio who brought up the idea although he was unsure whether the Batang Pier tactician was serious when he suggested that.

“Siguro biro lang nya kasi yun eh eh yung biro nya tinotoo ko. ‘Oy tayo, pwede na tayo mag timeout timeout wag na tayo parang maga bata’ and coach Jeff and Topex were there kasi nagkaroon sila ng ganun e so akala ko okay na,” he added.

Nonetheless, Vanguardia apologized if he offended the former player-turned coach although he also cried foul over the words hurled at him by Jarencio during their heated exchange.

“Ako wala naman ako, magha handshake nakita niyo naman nangyari. Ang isa lang, ako, mahal na mahal ko yung nanay ko every victory namimiss ko siya kasi pumanaw na siya. Wag lang mumurahin yung nanay ko kaya lang ako nag ano,” explained Vanguardia.

“I'm very close to my mom and kung minura mo yung nanay ko, wag naman. But coach Pido I’m sorry kung naoffend kita, I apologize kung di ako tumira sa last possession, I still apologize pero di kita minura di ko gagawin sayo kasi ang taas ng respeto ko sayo.”
