Ato Ular emerged as an unlikely hero while Jvee Casio put up another vintage performance as Blackwater turned back NorthPort, 97-90, to get back on the winning track in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

The Bossing didn't look like the same team that absorbed the infamous 29-game losing streak over the past two seasons as they played sweet music together, evident on their 32 total assists which allowed them to orchestrate the offense in the second half highlighted by a blazing 11-0 spurt early in the fourth quarter that left the Batang Pier in the dust.
Casio turned back the hands of time anew, exploding for 22 points and five assists while Ular, a rookie out of Letran, did the dirty work to finish with 17 points and five rebounds along with a couple of hustle plays for Blackwater which improved to a 2-1 slate
Tempers flared, however, as Bossing head coach Ariel Vanguardia and Batang Pier mentor Pido Jarencio figured in an altercation during the traditional coaches’ handshake at the end of the game.
The Batang Pier coach apparently was offended by the late timeout called by Vanguardia when the game was almost done and the victor already settled.
“It got heated in the endgame but I have high respect for Coach Pido. Turo ng magulang ko to be magnanimous in victory and we got the win. Siguro sumama ‘yung loob niya dahil doon sa timeout,” Vanguardia said of the incident.
“I have to do what I have to do. Gusto ko umiskor nun kaso walang opportunity di kami naka score but that doesn’t take away the efforts my players gave,” he added.
The Bossing also got a huge lift from the likes of Rashawn McCarthy, who dished out 10 assists on top of the nine points and seven boards, and Yousef Taha and James Sena who had 10-points apiece.
Blackwater tried to pull away in the third frame following a 10-0 run that turned a slim 62-58 lead into a 72-58 advantage. Roi Sumang, however, took charge for NorthPort towards the end of the third quarter as he unloaded seven straight points in the final 30 seconds to keep the Batang Pier at bay, 74-69.
Ahead by four, 82-78, Casio then triggered the telling run to rebuild a 93-78 advantage and never looked back up to the final buzzer.
Robert Bolick led NorthPort with 21 points while Sumang added 16 in a losing effort as they absorbed their second straight loss for a 2-2 record in the standings.
