'Masakit sa bulsa': Senator-elect JV Ejercito mulls biking to work as gas prices continue to soar
Senator-elect Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito said he is contemplating biking his way to work in the Senate once the 19th Congress opens its regular sessions.
Ejercito said biking is now his way of life and is actually thinking of biking to work to avoid the stress of traffic and at the same time to save up money on gas.
“Tutal dyan sa area ang biking ko, diretso na lang sa Senate. Magbibisikleta muna ako sa may area... I will do my workout in the morning, then pasok na ako sa Senado (I will bike near the area. Then I will do my work out in the morning, then go to work at the Senate),” Ejercito said in an interview on DWIZ.
“Pwedeng ganun, para makatipid sa gas at hindi matrapik ( We can do that, so we can also save up on gas and avoid traffic),” he said.
“Napakamahal ng gasolina. Kahit ako umaaray na tuwing nagpapakarga ang sasakyan ko. Five thousand ng P5,000 medyo masakit na sa bulsa. Hopefully makatipid by biking to work (The gas is so expensive. Even I couldn’t bear it each time I load up on gas. I shell out P5,000 everytime. It’s hard on the pocket. Hopefully, I can save by biking to work),” he pointed out.
Ejercito earlier advocated for safer bike lanes and for the government to improve the country’s cycling infrastructure.
He said more and more people are now using bicycles and scooters as an alternative mode of transportation due to the increasing gas prices.
“Though we admire such resilience and innovation, the government should look into improving road conditions for alternative means of transportation,” he said.
“Until such a time that the government has finished its goal to provide mass transportation that is people-centered and accommodating to every walk of life, there will always be room for alternative forms of travel,” he reiterated.
