The #MarcosCabinet: Menardo Guevarra, solicitor general

Outgoing Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra has been tapped to become the solicitor general under the incoming Marcos administration.

Guevarra accepted his nomination as solicitor general-designate during his meeting with President-elect Bongbong Marcos on Thursday, June 16, Press Secretary-designate Trixie Cruz-Angeles said.

Before being appointed as ad interim justice secretary in 2018, Guevarra was the Deputy Executive Secretary of incumbent President Duterte.

Guevarra, who was chosen by Marcos based on his sterling performance as a lawyer for over 30 years, graduated magna cum laude, majoring in Political Science from Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) in 1974.

Guevarra obtained his Masters in Economics from the University of the Philippines (UP) and worked at the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) from 1977 to 1983.

He received his Bachelor of Laws degree from ADMU and placed second in the 1985 bar exams.

Guevarra began private law practice in 1986 and started teaching at his alma mater, ADMU in 1990 as part of the Law School faculty, specializing in civil law, criminal law, and administrative litigation.

As solicitor general, he will be tasked to represent the people of the Philippines, the Philippine government, its agencies, instrumentalities, officials, and agents in any litigation, proceeding, or investigation before the Supreme Court (SC) and the Court of Appeals (CA).
