Prelate to Church social action workers: Carry service with humility

Church social action workers were reminded by a Catholic prelate to carry their service with humility “and not to impress” other people.

Archbishop Angelito Lampon of Cotabato issued said reminder in his homily during a Mass for the 40th National Social Action General Assembly (NASAGA) in General Santos City.

He warned of “hypocrisy if we do it just to show off."

“It’s a matter, therefore, of motivation, what really motivates us to give alms, to share,” CBCP News quoted Lampon.

In other words, the archbishop said the source of spirituality for Caritas is the life and ministry of Jesus, his actions and words.

“We can’t be social action workers without deep spirituality behind what we are doing,” Lampon said.

The assembly — held for the first time since the pandemic started — gathered more than 200 diocesan social action directors and workers across the country.

NASAGA is the venue for discussion and approval of major resolutions relating to the network’s thematic programs, social services, and organizational development.
