Omega displays comeback genes, nips Orange Esports to reach lower bracket semis

They are not called the comeback kings for nothing.

Smart Omega Esports staved off elimination as it recovered from a 2-1 series deficit to dispatch hometown bet Orange Esports, 3-2, and keep its title-retention bid alive in MSC 2022 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre on Friday, June 17.

With its tournament lives on the line, Omega put up a textbook performance capped by a savage from Duane “Kelra” Pillas on the Beatrix in Game 4 before giving the Malaysian team a thorough beatdown in the series clincher to advance to the lower bracket semis against Falcon Esports.

Kelra took the spotlight in the pivotal Game 4 win, finishing with an impressive 10-1-4 KDA as Omega players got their hands on their comfort picks en route to the dominant 18-4 win. Christian “Raizen” Sumagui had a neat 1-0-13 line on the jungle Akai while Joshua Ch4knu Mangilog set the tone with a 2-0-9 KDA on Franco.

Feeling the momentum shifting to the side of the Filipinos, Omega showed no letup in Game 5 as coach Jomie “Pakbet” Abalos outwitted the entire Orange Esports right on the draft.

Omega forced Orange to uncharacteristic picks while it got its hands on its best heroes. Ch4knu showed up anew as his initiations took control of the Malaysians’ early aggression. With the star roamer providing the setup, Kelra had his free reins on the farm and even secured early pick off to quickly pick up his core items.

Kelra led Omega with a 3-0-10 KDA on the Irithel while Raizen dominated the jungle with a perfect 6-0-8 line. Patrick “E2max” Caidic who was untouchable on his Xavier also provided support with 4-0-11 tally.
