Go: Duterte to continue war on drugs even after his term ends

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has assured that President Duterte is committed to continue his campaign against illegal drugs even after his term.

Go said the President is bent on continuing his war on drugs in any capacity as a private citizen.

One way to achieve this, the senator said, is for the outgoing president to use his influence and continue pressing Filipinos to be more disciplined and to refrain from using illegal drugs.

“Ibig sabihin, maaari po siyang magsalita bilang private citizen, maaari po siyang manghikayat sa ating mga kababayan na maging disiplinado at iwasan po ang iligal na droga (Meaning he can still speak as a private citizen, he can encourage the youth to be discplined and not to take illegal drugs),” said Go during a visit to Tarlac City.

Go said he values Duterte for his leadership skills, his strong political will and his love and compassion for fellow Filipinos.

“‘Yung pagmamahal sa kapwa Pilipino. Alam n’yo po, nakakalungkot dahil bababa na siya sa kanyang puwesto. Pero ‘yung natutunan ko talaga sa kanya ‘yung tapang at ang political will sa trabaho at ‘yung pagmamalasakit sa kapwa Pilipino (His compassion for Filipinos. You know, it’s sad that he is stepping down from his position. But I learned from him is courage and political will and his compassion for fellow Filipinos),” said Go.

Go said he will assist Duterte’s aim by continuing to advocate for and support sports development in the Philippines.

According to Go, sports will help keep Filipinos away from dangerous drugs.

“Ako naman po, bilang Committee Chair on Sports sa Senado, ang advocacy ko po talaga ay sports and health. Kaya iniengganyo ko po ang ating mga kababayan na layuan po ang iligal na droga. (As chair of the Senate Committee on Sports, my advocacy is really on sports and health. That’s why I encourage our people to veer away from illegal drugs). Get into sports, stay away from drugs,” he said.

Earlier, Go accompanied Duterte in the inspection of the National Academy of Sports (NAS) in New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac. The senator said the facility is the Duterte Administration's gift to the youth.

Go said he intends to expand the NAS system by establishing more academies in different parts of the country.
