By installing the rainbow lights, the provincial government also recognizes the freedom of expression among the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, queer, intersex, and asexual fellows.

Tarlac Governor Susan Yap personally led the lighting activity as she underscored the province’s being a safe and welcome place for people of all genders, colors, backgrounds and beliefs.

Her vision for Tarlac has always been to keep the province a place where everybody can flourish.

The rainbow lighting activity at the capitol also served as a prelude to a series of events that Tarlac will be hosting throughout the month of June, which is Pride Month.

The next event that will be featured by the provincial government will be the “Tarlac PRIDE Fair 2022” at the Central Mercato here from June 17 to June 19, 2022.

It will feature food booths, and Tarlaqueño-owned small businesses, an LGBTQIA+ Community Talk, and a “Best Costume/Outfit” competition.

There will also be a musical concert, face-painting activities, photo booths, and free drinks for those who will go to the Pride Fair.

Pride Month is observed in many parts of the world in June. Its roots have been traced back to the Stonewall uprising in New York City, wherein police raided a popular gay bar sometime in June in 1969.

Based on records, the police raid sparked Stonewall uprising that also led to several days of skirmishes between the police and gay, lesbian and transgender people weary of constant harassment.

It's widely cited as the inspiration for what much of the world now celebrates as Pride Month every June.

Pride Month events are taking place across the country throughout June so people can come together in support of the LGBTQ communities.
