Pilar, Abra mayor, vice mayor surrender 9 high-powered guns

PILAR, Abra Mayor Mark Roland Somera through his lawyer surrenders firearms to the Abra police at the provincial headquarters in Bangued, Abra.

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – The mayor and vice mayor of Pilar, Abra surrendered nine high-powered firearms last Tuesday, June 14, to the Abra Provincial Police Office in Bangued, Abra.

Mayor Mark Roland Somera and Vice Mayor Josefina “Jaja” Disono surrendered six pistols, two shotguns, and a revolver through their lawyer after Philippine National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge Police Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. revoked their licenses to ensure that these are not used in any violence.

Police Col. Maly Cula, Abra police director, said Somera surrendered a caliber .40 Glock Gen 4, a caliber .357 Smith and Wesson revolver, a Glock caliber .45, a SPAS 12-gauge shotgun, a CZ caliber 9mm pistol, a STRBOG caliber 9mm pistol, a Mossberg caliber 9mm pistol, and an Armscor M1911 Rock STD caliber .45 pistol. Disono yielded a 12-gauge shotgun.

These firearms are now in the custody of the Regional Civil Security Unit (RCSU)-Cordillera for appropriate disposition.

Tension gripped the municipality of Pilar south of the provincial capital last March 29 when Disono’s security aides evaded the Commission on Elections (Comelec) checkpoint and took refuge at his residence, triggering a standoff between them and the police.

As a result of the incident, the Comelec declared Pilar as an election hotspot.
