Pateros Mayor Miguel Ponce III has expressed alarm over the resurgence of Covid-19 in the municipality, the smallest local government unit in Metro Manila with an estimated population of 70,000.
On June 15, the Pateros municipal government announced that the municipality recorded five new Covid-19 cases after experiencing zero cases for a long time.

The other day, we recorded five new cases of Covid-19 positive. This after a long time that Pateros had zero Covid),” said Ponce.
The five new cases, who are all asymptomatic, were listed in Barangay Sta. Ana. As of June 15, Pateros has 9,957 confirmed cases, 9,839 recoveries and 113 deaths since 2020.
According to Ponce, the five positive cases are in isolation and contact tracing is being done to stop the spread of Covid-19.
Because of this, everyone is reminded to take care and always follow minimum health standard or protocol. These are wearing of face masks, handwashing and keeping a distance of one meter or more from the nearest person),” said the mayor.
He said because of this, the Pateros municipal government will step up the implementation of minimum health standards to ensure that the number of Covid-19 cases will not increase and that the municipality will not go back to the time when lockdowns were imposed, which resulted in hunger and loss of jobs.
(I appeal to everyone to be responsible and give our share for us to finally be free from the pandemic we are facing),” said Ponce.
