OCTA rectifies statement, says Metro Manila still 'low risk' for Covid-19

OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David rectified his previous statement, clarifying that Metro Manila is still under the low risk classification of Covid-19 based on their metrics.

In contrast with his earlier statement that Metro Manila is already under moderate risk classification, David, on Thursday afternoon, June 16, clarified that the region remained under the low risk classification of Covid-19, but forecasts show that this is “likely to change soon.”

“The National Capital Region (NCR) remains at low risk based on our metrics. We did not recommend an escalation of alert levels or lockdown,” said the expert in a tweet.

Amid the reported rise in Covid-19 cases, as well as the lingering threat of Covid-19 and its sub variants, the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) has decided to keep Metro Manila under an alert level 1 status until June 30, 2022.

The retention of Alert Level 1 status in the region was backed by the independent group OCTA Research, saying that they are “not expecting a big surge,” similar to what occurred in January or in 2021.

Meanwhile, in the same statement, David disclosed OCTA’s ideal Secretary of Health for the next administration.

“We hope the next administration will choose a Health Secretary who will be a champion for the Filipino people and not be an apologist,” said David.
