“We assure the general public that Boracay is still a safe place to travel in this new normal,” said the local government in an advisory.
A viral post of a TikTok user claimed that there is a “mini-outbreak” of Covid-19 at the country’s most famous beach destination.
The TikTok user claimed that he and his girlfriend pulled out from their Boracay-bound flight at the last minute because of fear from the mini-outbreak.
“Halos mga friends who are there right now and those who went back last week lahat nag-positive sa COVID (Almost all friends who are there right now and those who went back last week were all positive for Covid),” the TikTok user claimed.
Records of the Malay Municipal Health Office showed there are only two active Covid-19 cases in the resort island.
“Rest assured, the local government will continue to monitor the cases and the implementation of minimum public health standards,” it said.
The local government disclosed that vaccination status for residents and workers is 100 percent.
Local officials reminded the public to remain vigilant and double-check social media posts before spreading them.
