Fake dentist nabbed in Dumaguete

BACOLOD CITY – A former barangay councilor in Lanao del Sur was arrested for posing as a dentist in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental Wednesday, June 15.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Negros Oriental, along with the Philippine Dental Association (PDA)-Negros Oriental chapter, and Dumaguete City Police Station arrested Marwa Biston Salic, alias “Precious,” 23, of Barangay Ilian, Bacolod Kawali, Lanao del Sur, in an entrapment operation in a pension house in Barangay Looc.

Authorities allegedly caught Salic in the act of engaging in the illegal practice of dentistry, based on a report from the Negros Oriental police.

Salic, according to the police, has no authority from the law, has no certificate of registration, professional identification card, and special permit issued by proper authority which constitutes violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 9484 or The Philippine Dental Act of 2007.

Police confiscated from her some paraphernalia used by a dentist amounting to P200,000.

The operation was conducted based on information received by the police from the PDA. Salic, who is now under police custody, has yet to be reached for comment.
