Parañaque Mayor Olivarez focuses on economic recovery, keeps 'face mask rule'

Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez said the city government is focusing on the economic recovery and not on the removal of the mandatory wearing of face mask.

Olivarez said the city of Parañaque will keep the mandatory wearing of face mask and the observance of minimum health protocols as part of its fight against the Covid-19.

He explained that there should be a recommendation or a statement coming from health professionals for the removal of the face mask rule.

Olivarez expressed his stand after Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia issued an executive order which says that the wearing of face mask in the province is no longer required in well-ventilated and open spaces.

In Parañaque, Olivarez said they will continue to impose the rule and urge the residents to receive the vaccine against the disease.

He said based on the latest report of the City Health Office (CHO), the city has 10 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total to 25.

The mayor also urged individuals under the categories of A1 (health workers), A2 (senior citizens), and those with comorbidities to get their second shot of booster for their additional protection.

Olivarez said that as of Monday, June 13, only 4 percent or equivalent to 14,000 individuals who have received the second booster shot.
