Police Maj. Gen. Felipe Natvidad, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), has tasked all its concerned units to make sure that all the arrested gun ban violators in Metro Manila during the election period will be punished.
A total of 3,651 gun ban violators were arrested from January 9 to June 8 across the country, a total of 1,328 of them were from Metro Manila. A total of 2,812 firearms were also confiscated during the same period and Metro Manila accounted for 679 of them.
Natividad said all the 1,328 gun ban violators must be punished in order for them to learn their lesson well on following the rule of law.
"We will dedicate an all out effort to make sure that all legal proceedings must be religiously attended to against these violators. We commit to ensure that every single case filed in court against gun ban offenders who flagrantly violated the prohibition of carrying firearms outside residence during the election period must produce conviction," said Natividad.
"We will make no distinction. Regardless of status in life, or connections for arrested government officers, charges shall be filed accordingly," he added.
The NCRPO will again implement a six-day gun ban starting June 27 as part of the security measures for the inauguration of president-elect Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
