Ginebra remained perfect after two games but head coach Tim Cone felt like his wards are still groping for their form considering the inconsistencies of their performances against Blackwater and Rain or Shine.

Cone was well aware of the things to fix after a close fight that ended at 85-82 against the Bossing on their opening match and another tight encounter against the Elasto Painters, 90-85, on Wednesday.
“I think we are ready to start the game but the problem with us is sustaining our energy. We played badly in the first quarter but when we came off the break, the rest at halftime, (we) got going again,” said Cone on the Kings' habit of building a huge lead and only to allow their opponents to come back in the next quarter.
The Kings managed to build an 18-point lead in the first half but the Elasto Painters slowly erased the deficit before the break. The same scenario happened again in the second half as Ginebra banked on a huge third quarter flurry to build another sizable margin that even went as high as 21 points early in the final frame. The team, however, lost steam towards the end which opened the door for Rain or Shine to threaten in the waning minutes of the game.
“It's really about us getting prepared for the whole conference, the bigger picture of the conference. We got a long way to go, we feel, before we're there but we're really happy to be out 2-0. We could easily be 1-1 or 0-2 at this point,” added the multi-titled mentor.
Ginebra forward Japeth Aguilar echoed Cone’s sentiments, saying that the entire crew is still far from its peak form and there’s a lot of room for improvement in the upcoming games especially with their execution.
“To be honest maraming playmakers in our team but we can play at a higher level if we work together. That stuck in me when coach is explaining the game plan during the huddle,” said Aguilar who had a splendid night with 23 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
He also got solid contributions with Scottie Thompson chipping in 16 points, eight assists and six rebounds and Arvin Tolentino scoring all of his 11 points built on three triples to anchor the huge third quarter run. Ginebra though saw its offense became stagnant in the final frame and needed some crucial free throws from Aguilar and LA Tenorio to secure the win.
“Obviously, naman na nung nakahabol yung Rain or Shine we stopped yung ball movement,” he rued.
