EJ Obiena would be missing two tournaments in the coming days after testing positive for Covid-19.
The 26-year-old Tokyo Olympian announced this on his social media Wednesday, saying that he would not be able to compete in the Bislett Games in Oslo, Norway on Thursday and the Meeting de Paris in France on Saturday after contracting the virus.
“I contracted Covid a few days ago and now I’m quarantining at home,” Obiena said, who is based in Formia, Italy.
Despite the development, Obiena is looking forward to competing in the Taby Stavhoppsgala in Taby, Sweden on June 28 to 29 and the Bauhaus-Galan Wanda Diamond League Meet in Stockholm, Sweden on June 30.
Obiena last saw action in May where he won the gold medal and set a new meet record of 5.46 meters at the 31st Hanoi Southeast Asian Games.
He followed it up with a victory at the L’Aquila leg of the European City of Sports tournament in Italy where he posted 5.85m – almost close to his Asian record of 5.93m.
