Boy, 9, drowns in river at Benguet quarry site

BOKOD, Benguet – A nine-year-old boy drowned in a river at a quarry site in Sitio Adonot, Ambuklao, here Tuesday, June 14.

The Bokod Municipal Police Station said the incident happened at 6:30 a.m. and was reported to them at 12:15 p.m.

The victim’s father, Orlando Tamilan Victor, 49, backhoe operator, of Sitio Kawal, Barangay Bobok-Bisal, here, was adding oil to the backhoe and did not notice his son Jefferson, Grade 1 pupil of the Kawal Elementary School, heading to the river.

Thirty minutes later, the father searched for the victim and was shocked to see the boy floating unconscious on the river.

Jefferson was taken to the Dennis Molintas District Hospital, Daclan, this town, but was declared dead on arrival due to drowning by attending physician Dr. Hazeline Molintas.
