1,179 dengue cases reported in Isabela from January 1 to June 10

A total of 1,179 dengue cases have been recorded in Isabela from January 1 to June 10 this year.

Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit coordinator Arlene Martinez reported this during the 2nd Quarter Provincial Health Board Meeting at the Blue Conference Room, Capitol, Alibagu, City of Ilagan, Isabela.

She said that the City of Ilagan recorded the highest number of dengue cases with 155.

Ilagan was followed by San Mateo (86), Gamu (82), Tumauini (82), Cauayan City (78), Alicia (62), Jones (55), Roxas (50), San Mariano (42), Quirino (31), Benito Soliven (31), Cordon (29), and Naguilian (29).

No cases were reported in the coastal municipalities of Dinapigue and Divilacan.

The number of dengue cases is higher than the 238 in 2020 and 71 on 2021 but lower than the 2,608 in 2019 in the same period.

Martinez noted the recurring incidence of dengue cases every after three years. “Kung makikita natin 'yung trend, every after three years, tumaas ang dengue. Mataas noong 2019, mataas ngayong 2022 (If we take a look at the trend, dengue cases go up every after three years. It was high in 2019, it is also high in 2022).”

Due to the high number of dengue cases, Martinez said the province is now at the alert threshold and they are implementing measures to prevent the number from reaching epidemic threshold.

Isabela has been conducting several activities to combat the mosquito-borne disease such as facilitating cleanup drive in barangays, continuous monitoring of cities and municipalities with dengue cases, intensifying the information campaign on dengue awareness and prevention, distributing insecticides and larvicides, as well as distributing treated curtains and nets, among others.

Provincial Administrator Noel Manuel Lopez said that the fight against dengue is a whole-of-province and multi-sectoral approach.

The role of the Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Education, and Department of Health have been underscored in the issuance of directives to local government units to follow the 4S strategy against dengue: Search and destroy breeding places, secure self-protection, seek early consultation, and support fogging and spraying in hotspot areas.

The City of Ilagan has conducted cleanup drives in all barangays. A cleanup drive will be conducted province-wide on June 25.
