Letran, JRU make Season 97 debuts

Letran and Jose Rizal University gun for a winning debut while Arellano looks to follow up its impressive start in its match against San Beda in the NCAA Season 97 women’s volleyball tournament on Tuesday, June 14 at the Paco Arena.

The Lady Knights and the Lady Bombers tangle in the opening game at 12 noon while the Lady Chiefs look to pick up win No.2 against the Lady Spikers in the second game at 2:30 p.m.

Letran will be leaning on the veteran smarts of Chamberlaine Cunada and Daisy Melendres to lead the squad along with five other holdovers from the team that finished with a 4-4 record, good for fifth spot in the pandemic-hit Season 95.

Standing in their way however is an intact JRU squad which will be bannered by Dolly Versoza along with seven other members of the Lady Bombers team that finished sixth last season with a 4-5 record.

Meanwhile in the second game, the Lady Chiefs, who are coming off to a rousing 25-14, 25-12, 25-21 victory over the Mapua Lady Cardinals in their debut, eye its first win streak of the season.

Veteran Princess Bello and top guns Carla Donato and Necole Sasuman are expected to carry the scoring cudgels anew against a Lady Red Spikers squad who is still groping for form. San Beda hopes to bounce back from its 25-10, 25-13, 25-15 straight sets loss to St. Benilde last Saturday.
