Travel to tourists' destinations in Pangasinan made easier, safer

STA. BARBARA, Pangasinan -- Motorists may now experience smooth and convenient travel in Pangasinan following the completion of the Preventive Maintenance Project by the Department of Public Works and Highways’ Fourth District Engineering Office.

District Engineer Simplicio D. Gonzales reported on Monday to Region I Regional Director Ronnel M. Tan that the 4.764 lane kilometers asphalt overlay along the secondary road of Villasis–Malasiqui–San Carlos Road in Malasiqui, Pangasinan has been completed.

Engr. Gonzales said that the project was designed to improve mobility for motorists, strengthen the pavement structure, correct the current surface defects, and improve pavement serviceability.

The project included asphalt overlay, reblocking, thermoplastic pavement markings, and installation of road signs.

Meanwhile, facilities had also been improved in Ilocos Sur, assuring the tourists of smoother travel to local destinations in Northern Luzon.

Tan reported to DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado that tourists who are visiting the 85-foot Pinsal Falls in Barangay Baballasioan in Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur may now avail of the P14.48-Million two-storey building that’s complete with kitchen, storage room and reception area for them to experience.

The building also has 10 bedrooms on the second floor, and all are equipped with individual toilets and baths.

Tan also announced the partial completion of the access road leading to Tangadan Falls, a local tourist hotspot in San Gabriel, La Union.

“DPWH is fast-tracking full completion of the roadway leading to the main site, while other ongoing activities include roadway excavation and installation of stone masonry to protect residents and tourists from cliff hazards, especially during the rainy season,” added Tan.

Funded with P18-million through the Tourism Road Infrastructure Program of the Department of Tourism and implemented under the DPWH Convergence and Special Support Program, the 0.400-lane kilometer road improvement is set to provide safer and more convenient access for tourists visiting Tangadan Falls.
