Robredo unable to attend Sara Duterte's inauguration in Davao City

Outgoing Vice President Leni Robredo and Vice President-elect Sara Duterte will no longer meet personally since the former confirmed that she cannot attend her successor’s inauguration this coming weekend.

During a radio interview in Davao City, Duterte revealed that former President and Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will attend her inauguration in Davao City this Sunday, June 19.

Robredo told Duterte that she could not attend because the Naga Charter Day in her hometown is scheduled on the same weekend.

“Wala na po schedule na magkita (I don’t have anymore a schedule to meet) face-to-face with Vice President Leni Robredo,” Duterte said in an interview with Davao City Disaster Radio that was livestreamed on her Facebook page.

The Vice President-elect earlier invited current and ex-presidents and vice presidents to attend her inauguration this weekend.

She also invited President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and her father, President Duterte, but they have yet to confirm attendance.

Early reports indicated a possible meeting between Duterte and Robredo, which would have been a first since 2015, but both camps said the meeting will be between their transition teams.

The outgoing Vice President, however, made it a point to meet with Duterte’s transition team last June 3 at the Quezon City Reception House where Robredo holds office.

Meanwhile, Duterte also gave updates about her appointees and plans for the Office of the Vice President (OVP).

She already invited four department heads from the Davao city government and received three confirmations so far.

Duterte said she is still awaiting confirmation from another official about possibly working at the OVP.

“If he/she will not be retained, then he/she’ll be there at the Office of the Vice President,” she added in Bisaya.

Duterte is the incumbent Davao City mayor and she will be succeeded by her brother, Sebastian, who will take over beginning June 30.

She, however, refused to reveal the names of those who will be with her at the OVP.
