PH's slight increase in Covid-19 cases not something to worry about, says expert

An infectious disease expert said the slight increase in Covid-19 cases is not something to be worried about.

On Sunday, June 12, the country recorded a total of 308 new Covid-19 cases.
Dr. Rontgene M. Solante, an infectious disease expert, said the observed increase is expected given the presence of more transmissible Omicron variants in the country.
“With the report of BA.4, BA.5 entry including BA.2.12.1, na ‘pag pumapasok ito sa bansa natin (that when it enters our country), talagang we would expect na mayroong mga (there will be) uptick of cases but if you look at the 300 plus cases, it’s not something to worry about, something to be of concern,” he said on Monday, June 13, during a “Laging Handa” briefing.
The infectious disease expert underscored that it is important now to keep on wearing facemasks and observe minimum health and safety protocols.
According to Solante, it is also very salient that more individuals get jabbed with booster shots.
By getting boosters, he believes that the general public will be protected from the Omicron lineages.
Per the Department of Health, it has monitored a positive two-week growth rate from 14 out of 17 cities and municipality in the National Capital Region last week.
