Bongbong gets invited to UN climate change meet in Egypt

President-elect Bongbong Marcos has been invited by the Egyptian government to participate in the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference or COP27.

This was relayed to the incoming Philippine leader Monday, June 13 by Ambassador Hmed Shehabeldin Ibrahim of Egypt.

Ibrahim was among the handful of diplomats who carried out courtesy calls with Macros Monday at the BBM headquarters in Mandaluyong City.

"Today I had the pleasure to meet His Excellency (HE) President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and I submitted to him an official congratulations from the Egyptian president HE Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and we exchanged views regarding the prospects of developing the bilateral relations between Egypt and the Philippines since we are looking forward to develop many areas of cooperation since we are...agricultural countries and we can work for tourism and many aspects of cooperation," he said.

"I also took this opportunity to extend the invitation of HE the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to his HE to take part in November in COP27," added Ibrahim.

The envoy said that while the Philippines and Egypt are "different in geography and climate nature", the two nations still "share the main concerns".

The Philippines is known to bear the brunt of the effects of climate change due to its location.

The COP27 will be the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference to held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt later this year.

"It was really fruitful and we will follow up with that and Egypt is really keen to develop the bilateral relations with the Philippines being one of the key spots of international relations," Ibrahim further said of the courtesy call.
