1 dead, 6 farmers hurt in lightning strike in Pangasinan

MABINI, Pangasinan – A farmer was killed while six others were injured in a lightning strike in Sitio Sta. Rita, Barangay Nibaliw, here Sunday, June 12.

Police identified the fatality as Marcelo Flores, 40, and the injured were Marvin Mendoza, 37; Richard Flores, 26; Eduardo Dizon Jr., 21; and Edmond Dizon, 19, all residents of Barangay de Guzman here; and Sarah Jane Navarro, 26, and her live-in partner Archie Ansus, 29, both residents of Barangay Papalyasen, Burgos, this province.

The victims were planting palay and having a lunch break when a thunderstorm occurred.

Marcelo was standing about four meters away from the other victims who were then sitting and resting on the side of a shanty under a mango tree when lightning hit them.

The victims sustained injuries on different parts of their body were taken to the Western Pangasinan District Hospital, Alaminos City where Marcelo was declared dead on arrival (DOA) by the attending physician.
