Negros city opens P156-M modern bus terminal

BACOLOD CITY -- The city government of Sagay in Negros Occidental inaugurated its modernized bus terminal during its 26th Charter Anniversary celebration Saturday, June 11.

The new terminal which is located in Barangay Poblacion II, fronting Sagay National High School, was constructed in January this year and has a total cost of P156,684,000.

The budget came from the city’s development fund worth P25,684,000 and the other P131 million from the city government’s term loan from the Landbank of the Philippines.

Outgoing Mayor Alfredo Marañon III said this is one of the remaining landmark projects that will be inaugurated under his term as he steps down and commence his duties as the new provincial second district representative.

“The terminal was constructed to afford residents, tourists, and travelers a world-class bus terminal for a safe and convenient travel,” Marañon said.

The terminal features a two-story architectural glass building and a parking space that can accommodate 18 buses at the same time.

It also has a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology that will be adapted in its toll fee mechanism, similar to NLEX and SLEX, and 28 closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed around the vicinity.

There is also a designated parking space for tricycles and mini-buses in the 7,715-square meter terminal. The terminal’s waiting area has a seating capacity of 220 people.

The building, designed by Architech Wendel Duran, has 21 stalls with two big rentable spaces, metal detector machine at the entrance, and telephone and paging layout plan.

Mayor-elect Narciso "Narwin" Javelosa Jr., Vice Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva, Marañon, and new city councilors took their oaths of office during the inauguration.
