Ed Daquioag ruled out for rest of PH Cup

ANTIPOLO CITY — Terrafirma’s Ed Daquioag has been ruled out for the rest of the PBA Philippine Cup after suffering a nasty leg injury during a game against NorthPort Saturday, June 11 at the Ynares Center here.

Physical therapist Raymond Jose said that Daquioag will be sidelined for four months after being diagnosed with a right fibular fracture after an awkward landing during the Dyip’s defeat.

Jose added that Daquioag, who already has a cast in place after being rushed to the hospital, has to undergo a recovery period of six to eight weeks.

The timetable of his absence may forced Daquioag to also skip the first few games of the midseason Commissioner’s Cup which is slated for an early-September start.

Daquiaog got hurt with 5:24 left in the third quarter when he was defending NorthPort star Robert Bolick while the two were in the air.

But Daquioag’s landing was too bad, and producers of PBA broadcast partner One Sports opted to show the replay of the incident once since the injury was too graphic to see.

His absence leaves Terrafirma without one of its key wing players, especially after it fell to 0-2 in the season-opening conference.

He scored 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting with six rebounds and four assists in Terrafirma’s 105-102 loss to NLEX last Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The former University of Santo Tomas star had four points, five rebounds and three assists against NorthPort prior to the injury.

Meanwhile, teammate Isaac Go was scheduled to undergo an MRI Sunday after hurting his right knee while going for a rebound midway into the first quarter of the same game.

Eric Camson is also suffering from back spasms, but Jose said that the rugged forward seems to be on his way to a quick recovery.
