Dengue cases up 120% in Baguio in first 6 months

BAGUIO CITY – Dengue fever cases here in the first six months of this year increased by 120 percent and health authorities reminded residents to practice prevention strategies to prevent an outbreak with the onset of the rainy season.

Records showed that there were 268 dengue fever cases in this city from January 1 to June 8 compared to the 161 during the same period last year.

Dr. Rowena Galpo, City Health Services officer, said there are no dengue-related deaths so far this year, unlike in 2021 when there were five.

The city government recently crafted an action plan involving concerned sectors to contain the increase in dengue fever cases.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong issued Memorandum No. 105, Series of 2022, ordering the mobilization of 128 Barangay Anti-Dengue Brigade (BADB) to involve the community in a more aggressive campaign against dengue.

The memorandum also directs barangays to instruct and assist all households and business establishments in the conduct of daily search and destroy activities for dengue breeding sites.
