The Philippines will open an embassy in war-torn Kyiv in Ukraine, outgoing Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. bared.

Locsin disclosed the plan after meeting Ukraine Deputy Minister Dmytro Senik on Thursday, June 9.
"We're opening a Philippine Embassy in Kyiv; it is long overdue. We'll do it tomorrow," Locsin said on Twitter.
Senik and Locsin met and had a "candid discussion" about the Philippines' and Ukraine's prospects for their bilateral relations.
The Ukrainian official said he was glad that he and Locsin were on "the same page." He also invited the latter to visit Ukraine.
"Enjoyed (a) candid discussion with (Philippine) Foreign Secretary @teddyboylocsin (Teodoro Locsin Jr.) about prospects of our bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and Russia's war against Ukraine. Glad we are on the same page. Invited to visit #Ukraine," Senik said on Twitter also on Thursday night.

When the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out in February this year, the Philippines tapped the country's foreign posts in countries near Ukraine's borders to help Filipinos get out of the embattled country.
Filipinos in Ukraine were brought to the closest safe borders for repatriation.
The Philippines has been among the countries condemning the invasion of Ukraine and calling on Russia and Ukraine to end the war.
It also opened its doors for Ukrainians seeking refuge amid the ongoing war.
On June 9, Locsin also graced the national day reception of the Russian Federation in Manila, where he expressed that the "Philippines looks forward to further deepening of our people-to-people connections and strengthening economic linkages with Russia."
