Korean Embassy supports LGBTQIA+-themed film festival in PH

The Korean Embassy in the Philippines has thrown its support to an LGBTQIA+ film festival that will showcase different movies.

Under the "Pelikulaya 2022: Pantay-Pantay, Iba’t Ibang Kulay!," hosted by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), movies will be shown from June 10 to 26 at the FDCP Cinematheque Centres (Manila, Iloilo, Negros, Davao and Nabunturan) and in Cinema '76 Film Society in the Rainbow World Cinema section of this year’s PeliKULAYa film festival.

The Korean Embassy said one of the films to be shown is the Korean film "The Handmaiden," directed by Park Chan-wook, who bagged the best director award at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.

According to the Korean Embassy, it “is honored to join Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, France, Mexico, Spain, and the U.K. in supporting the film festival which aims to show films that tell stories and narratives of members of the LGBTQIA+ community.”

“We hope the festival could promote a better understanding of inclusivity and diversity among us and protect us against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity,” it said.

It added, “The Korean government will continue to participate in international society's noble efforts to promote and protect the human rights of all, including LGBT rights.”
