ITCZ to bring scattered rain showers, thunderstorms over Palawan, Zamboanga Peninsula

(MANILA BULLETIN)

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may continue to affect Palawan and Zamboanga Peninsula because of the prevalence of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, June 10.

ITCZ is an area where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge that brings cloudiness and rains.

PAGASA warned Palawan and Zamboanga Peninsula against possible flash floods or landslides due to scattered moderate to heavy rains in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon or evening.

PAGASA advised the public to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.

By next week, PAGASA said the entire country will experience generally hot and humid weather with chances of isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening as the ITCZ will oscillate away from Mindanao.

The ridge of the high pressure area could be the dominant weather system in the country in the coming days, PAGASA said in its weekly weather outlook.
