ANTIPOLO CITY — San Miguel Beer took advantage of NLEX’s foul situation in the fourth quarter and prevailed 100-92 Friday, June 10 for the early lead in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center here.

June Mar Fajardo and Mo Tautuaa combined for 12 points, majority of which came from the foul line, as the Beermen were able to pull away and once again came up victorious in the second game of the young campaign.
The two big men made eight of 10 from the foul stripe which helped SMB take control of the contest.
CJ Perez also contributed for the Beermen with 19 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals while Marcio Lassiter added 18 on the day he became the ninth player in league history to make 1,000 career triples.
Lassiter, who has been with the league since 2011, did it with 3:56 remaining in the second quarter.
Getting another win came before SMB goes on a week-long break in preparation for marquee matches with Magnolia Chicken Timplados on June 17 and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel on June 19.
“Before the start of this conference, we told the boys that we should have a good start in order for us to get a good rhythm,” said coach Leo Austria. “In the previous conferences, you never witness this team na in the first few games nanalo kami. In fact in the last conference 0-2 agad kami.
“But this time, with this win, I think this will add some confidence to the team, not only to the players but also to the coaching staff and the management,” he added.
Don Trollano posted 21 points but the Road Warriors couldn’t replicate their win over the Terrafirma Dyip and fell to 1-1.
NLEX was behind 82-81 with over nine minutes left when SMB was able to draw some fouls, eventually putting Tautuaa and Fajardo at the line.
SMB would eventually go up by nine twice, the last on Tautuaa’s two charities with under a minute left for 98-89.
