The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday, June 10, condemned the brutal slaying of Maricel Peralta, Election Officer of Mutia, Zamboanga del Norte.

The poll body said Peralta, accompanied by an Election Assistant, was on her way home on June 9 when a motorcycle-riding assailant opened fire on her vehicle.
"The Election Assistant survived the attack and is currently receiving medical care. We are already in communication with the Philippine National Police and we assure the public - and Maricel's loved ones - that the Comelec will not rest until justice is served," Comelec acting chairperson Socorro Inting said in a statement.
The Comelec Employees Union also condemned the killing of Peralta.
"We cry and demand justice for EO Peralta," the group said in a separate statement.
"We call on the authorities to leave no stones unturned in their investigation and to do everything in their power to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice," it added.
To dramatize their collective call, Comelec EU asked poll employees nationwide to wear black on June 11.
