Tonton Gutierrez on his children joining showbiz: 'Gawin niyong model si Ate Janine Gutierrez'

Some of today's rising stars are from respected showbiz clans like the Barrettos, the Legaspis, and the Estradas, to name a few.

But the children of celebrity couple Tonton Gutierrez and Glydel Mercado are yet to follow in their footsteps.

Why?

Well, Tonton said he and Glydel discussed it already and they prefer that their kids finish their studies first if ever.

He told us during a recent virtual interview for his upcoming GMA show "Love You Stranger," "Sabi ko nga (sa kanila): 'Finish your school, finish your college and then after you can do whatever you want to do. Bahala na kayo.'"

"Lagi kong sinasabi: 'Gawin niyong model si Ate Janine.' Kasi si Janine Gutierrez nagtapos ng college and then pumasok sa showbiz."

Note that the 32-year-old actress is Tonton's niece.

She is the daughter of his half-brother Ramon Christopher.

Tonton revealed his eldest daughter Aneeza is already testing the waters.

She already did a yet unreleased film alongside Isko Moreno's son, Joaquin Domagoso.

"She only tried it and pinayagan ng nanay so wala na akong nagawa kung hindi 'sige po.' Pumayag na rin ako," he related.

"Sa totoo lang, yung daughter kong yun, napakatahimik, ano siya, introvert. I never expected that she would say yes to do a project. Parang out of nowhere, jaw-dropping nung sinabi sa akin ni Glydel: 'Si Aneeza gagawa ng pelikula...' Nakakagulat. But I guess she has it in her."

He was able to watch Aneeza's outtakes and Tonton believes she has "it."

"I guess, may pinagmanahan," he said, adding in jest: "Nagmana sa nanay."

Tonton also talked about fatherhood in the same interview.

According to him, he's a "jeprox" dad.

"Hindi ako masyadong uptight sa anak ko," he said.

"I'm a father na parang lahat pwede. Pwede akong strict, pwede akong makulit, pwede akong masaya, pwede akong whatever... Kung ano man yung dumating sa sitwasyon, ganun ako."

Tonton even deemed himself "chill."
