Scattered rains prevail over western portions of central, southern Luzon due to LPA

Light to heavy rains may continue to affect the western sections of central and southern Luzon in the next 24 hours because of the prevalence of a low pressure area (LPA) inside the country’s area of responsibility, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, June 1.
As of 10 a.m., PAGASA estimated the location of the LPA at 200 kilometers (km) north-northwest of Coron, Palawan or at 195 km west of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.
It said the weather disturbance remained less likely to develop into a tropical depression and may dissipate within 12 to 24 hours.
However, it may still bring “light to moderate with at times heavy rains” over Pampanga, Zambales, Bataan, northern Quezon, including Polilio Island, northern Palawan, Oriental Mindoro, and Occidental Mindoro.
“Under these conditions, scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA warned the public.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA also advised the public to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
Moreover, the entire archipelago will have light to moderate winds, while its coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
