The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will deploy three Filipino cadets to New London, Connecticut in the United States to undergo a four-year training at the US Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) this month.

Cadets Arlyn Bangsoy, Ryella Allyssa Flores, and Alliane Matthew Dela Vega were appointed by Admiral Artemio Abu, PCG Commandant, as international cadets under the USCGA's International Cadetship Program.
“The PCG Cadetship Program is a part of the Command’s vision of establishing a first-class Cadet Corps as a precursor to the establishment of the PCG Academy in the future,” Abu said.
Bangsoy is a graduate of XiJen College of Mountain Province and a cadet scholar of the PCG and Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA). Meanwhile, Flores is a graduate of the University of Baguio Science High School. Lastly, Dela Vega finished high school at the Ateneo de Manila University.

Abu administered the oath-taking and signing of contract ceremony of the three cadets at the PCG headquarters in Port Area, Manila on Tuesday, May 31 with Lt. Brandon Taylor, of the US Coast Guard.
Bangsoy, Flores, and Dela Vega will also participate in a formal swearing-in ceremony at the USCGA on June 24.
Once they completed their training, the three cadets will officially be part of the US Coast Guard Academy Class of 2026.
“Upon graduation from the USCGA, the three international cadets shall be commissioned in the PCG with the rank of ensign,” Abu said.
The cadets will then serve a minimum of eight years of continuous active service in the PCG.
