Residents vote 'manually' in QC polling station after VCM bogged down

Voters in a polling precinct at the 15th Avenue Elementary School in Cubao, Quezon City agreed to put their filled up ballots in boxes after its vote-counting machine (VCM) bogged down on Monday, May 9.

According to the school principal, Dr. Ryan Atezora, the micro secure digital (SD) card of the VCM at room number 786 was corrupted, which prompted the teachers to ask the voters if they would agree to vote manually. The machine was not working since the start of the election.

He added that those who opted to vote manually were asked to sign a waiver and were assisted by teachers to place their filled up ballots inside ballot boxes.

The principal also said that the incident did not cause disorder on the queues of voters as they properly coordinated with Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) volunteers.

Atezora said that the broken SD card was already removed from the machine and they are waiting for its replacement.

The ballots of those who voted manually will be fed to the machine once it is fixed.

According to the principal, there are 7,153 individuals registered to vote in the school.
