The camp of presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo said Monday there should be no manual counting of votes from those precincts with faulty vote counting machines (VCM) as the conduct of the 2022 polls is only automated.
Lawyer Romulo Macalintal, poll counsel for Robredo, said what should only be done is "manual feeding" of ballots into VCMs.
He made the clarification as some voters expressed fear of supposed manual voting after their precincts' VCMs malfunctioned when they cast their votes.
"There would be no manual counting kasi po ang ating (because our) electoral processes ay (is) automated," he said in a press conference Monday night.
Macalintal said "it is not possible to do a manual counting" of votes because the Commission on Elections "has no documents" for it.
"Wala silang election returns na magtatally (They have no election returns to conduct a tally)," he said.
"Hindi po totoo 'yan kasi (That's not true because there's) no documents, no forms had been prepared by the Comelec," he added, "transmissions will be done via automation."
