Muntinlupa elections peaceful, says SPD


The conduct of elections in Muntinlupa City was peaceful, according to the Southern Police District (SPD).

There are 311,750 registered voters in Muntinlupa, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Voting in the city started at 6 a.m. in 28 voting centers in nine barangays. There are 2,051 total precincts in the city clustered into 432 precincts.

Long lines formed outside clustered precincts since the voting started. At Itaas Elementary School inside the New Bilibid Prison Reservation in Barangay Poblacion, which has 12,362 registered voters, people waited their turn in waiting rooms and hallways.

Outside the Muntinlupa Elementary School, which has 20,275 registered voters, people gave sample ballots to voters entering the polling center.

Of the 28 polling places in Muntinlupa, Alabang Elementary School in Barangay Alabang has the highest number of registered voters with 32,081 followed by Sucat Elementary School with 25,059 and Itaas Elementary School-Annex at Southville 3 housing project with 23,348.

Candidates for local positions cast their vote in the morning. Mayoral candidate Ruffy Biazon voted at De La Salle Santiago Zobel School, with 8,744 registered voters, in Barangay Ayala Alabang while congressional bet and incumbent Mayor Jaime Fresnedi cast his vote at Villa Carolina 1 Subdivision, with 2,797 registered voters, in Barangay Tunasan.

In addition, there are 2,719 persons deprived of liberty (PDL) who are registered voters in Muntinlupa. Of the total, 2,391 are at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) while 328 PDLs are under the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
