Elections in Iloilo province generally peaceful – Comelec

ILOILO CITY -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) considered the national and local elections here and the whole Ilolilo province to be generally peaceful.

“No major incident happened today,” uttered Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria, acting Comelec supervisor.

Ananoria told Manila Bulletin that none of the 13 towns identified as election hot spots had any election-related violence.

Ananoria stressed that it was highly peaceful in the towns of Alimodian, Bingawan, Igbaras, Janiuay, Lambunao, Lemery, Leon, Maasin, Miag-ao, San Dionisio, San Joaquin, Sara, and Tubungan.

While the elections were generally peaceful in the 42 towns and the component city of Passi, there were several technical glitches and difficulties.

Ananoria disclosed that around 30 vote-counting machines (VCMs) had some problems including paper jams or problems with SD cards.

Ananoria dismissed claims that certain concerns such as having wrong names of candidates in voters’ receipts.

“They might have shaded the wrong side of the circle and that’s why it printed the names of the other candidates,” Ananoria added.
