Amid reports of some vote counting machines malfunctioning on Election Day, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday, May 9, assured the public that it is in full control of the situation.

"We'd like to assure everybody that the Comelec is in full control of what is happening right now. The electiom is still ongoing. The voting is still ongoing," Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said in a press briefing at the PICC Forum Tent in Pasay City.
He described the problems encountered with the VCMs as a minor glitch.
"We'd like to assure the public that these are anticipated," said Garcia.
"In fact, the VCMs that malfunctioned such as those unable to read, or had problems with the scanner of the machines all of these were already solved by our operations center, including our repair hubs," he added.
Garcia earlier reported that 1,867 VCMs encountered various types of issues on Election Day.
Among the issues reported are paper jam (940), rejected ballots (606), VCM scanner (158), VCM printer not printing (87), and VCM not printing properly (76).
