On Mother’s Day, senatorial candidate and Sorsogon Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero honored his wife, celebrity actress Heart Evangelista, his mom Evelina Guevarra Escudero, and his mother-in-law, Cecilia Ongpauco.

Escudero made the tribute as he joins the whole Filipino community in commemorating Mother’s day on Sunday, May 8.

“Sa araw na ito, special shoutout sa aking ina na si Nanay Eve, sa aking maybahay na si Heart, at sa aking mother-in-law na si Mommy Cecile (on this day, I have a special shout out to my mother, Nanay Eve, to my wife, Heart, and to my mother-in-law Mommy Cecile),” Escudero said.

“Dalangin ko ang patuloy na pagpapala sa Panginoon para sa inyo at sa lahat ng mga nanay na patuloy na nakikipaglaban para sa magandang kinabukasan ng kanilang pamilya (I can only pray for God to give you blessings and to all the mothers who continue to fight for a good future for their family),” said the former senator who is now seeking a Senate comeback in the May 9 polls.

Escudero said he believes that a mother’s love and sacrifices for their home and for their family and for the nation can never be discredited.

“Kaya’t marapat lang na buhusan natin sila ng pagmamahal, respeto at pagpapahalaga sa lahat ng panahon at pagkakataon (That’s why it’s important that we shower them with love, respect and honor all the time and at every opportunity),” he said.

“May mga nagsasabing ang ating bansa ay isang ‘matriarchal society’ na kung saan ang mga ilaw ng tahanan ay malakas ang impluwensya sa bawat miyembro ng pamilya. Kaya naman hindi nakakapagtaka na marami sa ating mga anak, lumaking maka-nanay (Many are saying that our nationis a matriarchal society because our mothers have the greater influence in every family household. It’s no wonder why many of our children grow up leaning more towards their mother),” Escudero pointed.
