The busy business district of Makati City turned even busier the whole of Saturday when a deluge of pink-clad supporters of aspiring president Vice President Leni Robredo showed up to congregate for the last time at her miting de avance.

The city witnessed what might be a historic gathering when thousands upon thousands of people rallied behind Robredo’s candidacy.
At 6:30 p.m.—halfway through the event—local organizers and rescuers estimated the crowd to be 450,000, the largest tally Robredo has had since the campaign season kicked off. It swelled to 780,000 as the event ended.
Ayala Ave., one of Makati’s major thoroughfares and one of the busiest roads in Metro Manila, gave way to Robredo’s supporters, who filled its whole stretch from the corner of Makati Ave. to Gil Puyat Ave.
It turned pink, as beautifully shown through aerial shots taken during the event.
There were also humongous crowds on the wings of Ayala Ave., including on Makati Ave., Paseo de Roxas Ave., and V.A. Rufino, but business operations remain undisrupted.
Some “Kakampinks” even camped out to secure their spaces near the stage as all nearby hotels turned out to be already fully occupied.
The official program started at 4 p.m., but as early as 12 noon, a huge crowd was already waiting amid the scorching heat.
#MakatiIsPink also trended on Twitter worldwide as supporters made their presence felt even online
Everywhere, there were creative and witty placards that expressed support for Robredo and her running mate, vice presidential aspirant Sen. Kiko Pangilinan.
And just like in Robredo’s other grand rallies, free foods, and drinks were overflowing.
“Ang Makati ‘pag kinamot pink (When you scratch Makati, it will turn pink),” read one of the placards. Makati in Filipino also means itchy.
