LENTE calls for vigilance on Election day

The Legal Network for Truthful Elections (LENTE), an election watchdog, asked the public to be on guard and report any irregularities with regards to conduct of general elections on Monday, May 9.

"We call on the public to remain vigilant on irregularities and election offenses that would affect the free vote of Filipinos," the group said in a statement on Sunday, May 8.

"Particular attention should be given to vote buying efforts as candidates and supporters would drum up such efforts on the last day before elections," it added.

The group is set to deploy 4,000 volunteers "from its 40 law school chapters nationwide to monitor and to ensure a safe, accountable, transparent, and inclusive elections."

"The focus of LENTE’s monitoring activities will be the implementation of election day procedures with a particular focus on health and safety protocols, and the voting experience of Persons with Disabilities, Older Persons, Indigenous Peoples, and Persons Deprived of Liberty," it said.

"LENTE is also conducting a focused election monitoring project in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to produce recommendations for the further improvement of the Bangsamoro Electoral Code as filed in the Bangsamoro Parliament," it added.
