The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has disowned a now-viral document circulating on social media saying that some party-list groups and a senatorial candidate have been disqualified by the poll body.

Per the fake document that even used the logo of the Comelec, the party-lists and a certain senator were disqualified alleged involvement in “terrorist activities.”

During a press briefing, Comelec Commissioner George Erwin M. Garcia even called the document as “fake news.”

“Hindi po iyan totoo (That is not true),” he announced.

“Hindi po naglalabas ng ganoong whereas, whereas resolution ang Commission (The Commission does not release such whereas, whereas resolution),” Garcia added.

Comelec Acting Spokesperson John Rex C. Laudiangco, whose name was also used in the fake document, has belied the existence of such a document.

“We are stating that this document circulating regarding some party-lists and a senatorial candidate is fake and spurious,” he stressed.

He even pointed out that his position placed on the fake document was incorrect.

Laudiangco called on the public not to believe such lies being spread on social media.

He said those entities behind the proliferation of such lies will be dealt with accordingly.

Meanwhile, Garcia also belied erroneous reports on social media claiming that the canvassing of votes is already done.

With this, the Comelec commissioner urged the public to only rely on traditional media and not on social media.

“‘Wag niyo pong paniniwalaan ang mga fake news na kumakalat sa social media, mag-rely lang po tayo sa traditional media na mayroon tayo... Sila ang magbibigay sa inyo ng tunay at makatotohanan na balita (Don't believe the fake news rampant on social media, we should rely on traditional media... They are the ones providing real and truthful news),”

Garcia appealed.
