Japan PM says country will reopen as early as June

Japan's Golden Week, which falls from May 3 to 5, has given many local Japanese the opportunity to spend the holidays with their family and friends. According to Nikkei, millions of Japanese traveled domestically to visit their hometowns for the holiday.

This period will give the Japanese government some time to observe and evaluate if they are ready to lift the ban on tourist visas, in the hopes of the number of Covid-19 infections won't go up.

Last Thursday, May 5, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida included in his speech, while in London, that they are targeting to ease border control measures by June.

Currently, only foreign nationals who have businesses in Japan are allowed to enter. It has also been reported that entry will be accepted once there are the traveler has received three doses of vaccine. This also means that there is no need to self-quarantine if tested negative for Covid-19. It is expected that these rules will be applied in June or when Japan reopens to more tourists.

The Japanese government is working on keeping their their citizens safe from the Covid-19 and reviving its economy.
