UST takes second straight win with sweep of UE

University of Santo Tomas blanked University of the East, 25-16, 25-22, 25-20, to take its second straight victory in the UAAP Season 84 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City Saturday night, May 7.

Eya Laure and Camille Victoria showed the way anew for the Golden Tigresses as the Espana-based squad joined the likes of National University, De La Salle, and University of the Philippines with 2-0 records.

Laure hammered down 18 points off 16 attacks while Victoria finished with 10 spikes and two service aces for 13 markers for the Tigresses, who missed the services of Imee Hernandez after injuring her right angle in UST's 25-23, 25-20, 25-21 win over Far Eastern University.

"Full control naman kami sa laro bukod doon sa outside hitter nila na ‘di ma-control kasi ginawa kaming billiards table, ginawa kaming pabandahan nung spiker nila,” said UST head coach Kungfu Reyes.

Reyes was refering to Janeca Lana, who paced the Lady Warriors with 17 points off 16 attacks.

"'Yong adjustment, may nakukuha kami pero 'yon nga mas marami 'yong lumulusot na atake nila sa outside area. 'Yon 'yong kailangan naming i-adjust sa mga susunod na laro."

Victoria sparked a 5-0 run for UST late in the third set to build a 22-17 advantage before UE retaliated and tried to force an extended four frame.

Still up 23-20, Tigresses Kecelyn Galdones and Ysabel Jimenez blew that chance away and connived for back-to-back conversions for the win.

Dalrymple Lingay also scored 11 of her 12 points off attacks for the Lady Warriors.
