BI nabs 5 Korean fugitives

Bureau of Immigration (BI) operatives have arrested five Korean fugitives in separate operations in Metro Manila and Pampanga, BI Commissioner Jaime Morente disclosed Friday, May 6.

Morente said the aliens who are wanted in their country for serious crimes will be deported and permanently banned from returning for being undesirable visitors.

BI fugitive search unit (FSU) chief Rendel Ryan Sy identified the Korean arrested last Wednesday at the Clark Freeport in Mabalacat, Pampanga as Kang Ju Hwan, 39.

An arrest warrant was issued against him by the Busan district court for allegedly operating illegal gambling sites on the Internet which did not pay dividends based on the results of the game.

On Thursday, FSU agents also arrested in Parañaque City Paek Sanghun, 41, who is wanted for telecommunications fraud.

The Suwon district court in South Korea issued a warrant of arrest against Paek for allegedly engaging in voice phishing operations that defrauded victims of more than half a million US dollars.

Arrested on the same day in Batasan Hills, Quezon City were Song Jongmin, 40, and Kim Kyungmo, 32, who are both wanted for fraud.

Song is subject of an arrest warrant from the central district court in Seoul for fraud, while Kim is wanted to stand trial before the Busan district court where he was charged with telecommunications fraud and voice phishing.

Arrested in an establishment along Timog Ave., Quezon City was Yang Minseong, 32.

Arrest warrants were issued against Yang for allegedly being a member of a criminal syndicate and for economic crimes.

He was tagged by Korean authorities as one of the leaders of ‘Kang Minho Pa’, a voice phishing syndicate that defrauded over one billion Korean Won from their victims.
